About Allison

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), accredited in
North Carolina since March of 2005.  I was born and raised in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and attended Mount Tabor High School.  I graduated from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise and Sport Science and in 2003 with a Master of Science and an Educational Specialist degree in Counseling. I completed 900 hours of internship experience at Step One Alcohol and Drug Services (now Insight Human Services) in Winston-Salem.

Beginning in 2004, I worked as an Adult Therapist at Daymark Recovery Services in Thomasville and Lexington, NC.  There, I used the Recovery Model for treating patients, using a holistic approach to focus on the person and not just the presenting symptoms. I treated an extensive array of individuals with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, and personality disorders. I worked at Daymark until the fall of 2007.

I have been in private practice since the summer of 2005, focusing on women’s issues.  I am married with one son and am involved in the running community in Winston-Salem and also love to travel, discover new restaurants, and read.

My treatment approach:

My goal as a counselor is to help clients discover their true selves by developing insight into their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is my goal to provide a safe and supportive environment in which counterproductive patterns of behavior are examined within the therapeutic relationship.

I am an eclectic counselor but primarily use the person-centered (Rogerian) and solution-focused approaches in sessions.  I believe in goal-setting and helping clients to find their own strengths.  It is my belief that each client is the expert on him or herself and my role is to direct the client to self-realization.

When I am working with an individual who is dealing with an eating disorder, it is imperative that I work with a treatment team (nutritionist, physician, psychiatrist, and family counselor depending on the individual need and/or severity). I can give you referral information for these clinicians.

Memberships/Licensure:
